We born in a village, town or a city, We use different products in everyday life, we encounter number of skilled people in our life , we taste different food stuff everyday  but only few out of them are unique in their skill, taste, location etc. It is not only the skill but it is a LIFE of the those people engaged in these activities. Their survival depends upon their products , tastes and location. Their survival will be in threat if their skill is copied by some other people or produced by using latest technologies. So their Intellectual rights and ability shall be protected.

World Trade Organization(WTO) of United Nations enacted  WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS)  to protect the Intellectual rights and under this agreement   GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION(GI)” is one such Intellectual right.

India is a member of WTO and also enacted Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. As per the Act Government of India is recognizing number of unique products’ of specific locations  by allotting GI tag. It will protect the intellectual ability and skills not from coping or using the name of the product or reproduce commercially.

GI LOGO

The Logo contains the letters ‘G’ and ‘I’ which are used together as an acronym for Geographical Indication. It also resembles the general location symbol, indicating that each GI has specific characteristics which are attributable to its place of origin. The Logo also bears the tri-colour of the Indian National Flag, which instils a sense of pride and reflects the essence of India. The GI Logo will act as a certifying mark that can be used to identify all Indian products registered as GIs, irrespective of the categories, which makes it convenient for the consumers to recognize authentic GI products, and thereby protect the interests of genuine GI producers.gi logo small
