How “Cadre” is allotted to All India Services(AIS)?
There are three All India Services (AIS) are in India and the officers are recruited through Union Public Service Commission. They are
- Indian Administrative Service [IAS]
- Indian Police Service[IPS]
- Indian Forest Service [IFoS]
IAS & IPS officers are recruited through UPSC Civil Services Exam. IFoS officers recruited through UPSC Civils (Preliminary) Exam and IFS Exam for Main Examination.
What is Cadre?
The officers selected for AIS will be allocated a CADRE to start their Career. Cadre is nothing but the State they are allotted. AIS officers shall do the job in the allotted STATE in their entire Career and also they can work in the Union Govt on deputation.
Cadre allocation Policy :
Cadre is allotted to the successful candidates based on their merit in the Examination and their order of preference [ ZONE & CADRE] as per the Cadre allocation Policy of Union Government 2017.
- Currently there are 26 Cadres in for All India Services like UP cadre, AGMUT cadre( Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory), AP cadre etc.
- All 26 cadres have been divided into five Zones.
- Every Cadre have sanctioned Cadre strength(number of posts for IAS,IPS and IFS)
- Cadre will be allotted to the successful candidates as per the vacancy position, reservation and the candidate’s preference zone.
