How to become a Doctor?

Almost all students get a career related questions from teachers, family members, friends like what is your ambition in life? What do you want to become in life? What is your dream to become?. Many of the students’ reply that I want to become a Doctor, I want to become a cardiologist, children’s doctor etc. But as a child they don’t know how to become a Doctor, what to study to become a doctor. So it is our responsibility to give basic awareness on what to study, what exam to write, where to study etc.

Every aspirant who wants to become a Doctor should write NEET exam after their completion of Intermediate (10+2) in BPC( Biology, Physics, chemistry) subjects.

NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST [NEET (UG) ] will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) as a uniform entrance examination for admission to the following courses in all medical colleges, including those governed under any other law in force including AIIMS ,JIPMER, CMC-Vellore, KMC-Manipal etc.

  1. MBBS-Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery
  2. BDS-Bachelor of Dental Surgery
  3. BAMS-Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
  4. BSMS-Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery
  5. BUMS-Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery
  6. BHMS-Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery
  7. BVsc– Bachelor of Veterinary Science

NEET will be conducted in 13 languages are : English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Admission Procedure:

The Result and All India Rank of NEET (UG) will be notified by NTA and based on the Rank, the National Medical Commission conducts counselling for 15% state seats and allotment of seats will be done according to merit and candidate choice for central Government institutes and deemed universities like AIIMS and JIPMER.

The counselling for remaining 85% state quota seats and private colleges is done by the medical boards of respective states.

Number of Seats

The total number of seats offered under NEET as of 2022 are 177,126. The seats may be varied from year to year as per approval of the Government.

  1. MBBS– 98,013
  2. BDS -27,868 for, for
  3. AYUSH-50,720( Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy)
  4. BVSc– 525

Exam pattern and structure:

There are a total of 180 MCQs (Multiple choice questions) for 720 marks (Each question carries 4 marks and each incorrect response gets -1 negative marking ) asked in the exam from the core concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology which are taught in classes 11 and 12 as prescribed by the NCERT.

  1. Physics- 45
  2. Chemistry-45
  3. Botany-45
  4. Zoology-45.
